Bioshock headed for the iPhone

iphone-bioshock-smOn February 11, 2008, IG Fun mobile games developer/publisher, announced that they were bringing Bioshock to mobile handsets. Judging from their pass title releases, most assumed Bioshock would be in 2D, which was true for the most part.

Fast forward to May 29, 2008, the event is BREW 2008 conference, held in San Deigo, CA, Stuart Dredge of Pocket Gamer runs into CEO of IG Fun, Sean Malatesta, where he catches his first glimpse of Bioshock on the iPhone and surprisingly, its running in 3D.

Malatesta says he hopes to bring Bioshock to the iPhone, this isn’t a confirmation, so don’t get too excited just yet, we aren’t out of the woods. The iPhone Bioshock demo was non-interactive, but Malatesta did state the iPhone was rendering all of the graphics, demonstrating the iPhone’s graphical prowess.

Bioshock is known for it’s atmospheric gameplay, how well that will transfer to the small screen is anyone’s guess, and the control scheme will be critical to Bioshock’s success on the iPhone. I’ll admit, the idea of playing a FPS using the iPhone’s accelerometer doesn’t sound too promising, but you know the old saying, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.
