The current selection of Chess games in the App Store are all missing one major feature, multiplayer. I’m not talking about sharing your iPhone with a friend, I’m talking about full blown online multiplayer, where you can hop on and findĀ opponentsĀ to play from around the world.
Lets face it, unless you live in a Chess club odds are you’ll have a tough time finding another Chess player interested in playing you and if you can’t find anyone to play, it’s another repetitive game against the computer.

Playing Chess against real people is the way the game was meant to be played, it’s so much more exciting and rewarding. Thankfully 3 Against 2 has created a no frills multiplayer Chess game, Versus Chess.
The word multiplayer is listed in the description of many App Store games, usually they are referring to multiplayer through WiFi, as we all know isn’t exactly every where, which is my main gripe.
Versus Chess on the other hand takes full advantage of the always online nature of the iPhone, utilizing both EDGE and 3G wireless networks, so anywhere you have a wireless signal, you can play a nice quick game of Chess.
And not to worry if you are new to Chess, there is a ranking system so it’s easy to identify who would be a good match for you.
All games are played with a timer, encouraging fast and fun games, which is ideal for a mobile device.
Versus Chess by 3 Against 2 is currently priced at $8.99 in the App Store.
