Now that I’ve had the chance to actually get some hands on time with ScribBall, I can definitely say the game delivers on both fun and unique gameplay. Here’s how the game works, your goal is to get 4 or more balls of the same color to connect to make them pop, these are called combos, each combo raises your score.
In order to get balls of the same color to connect players need to tap on a ball using the touchscreen, this will cause the tapped ball to pop, the other balls will fall in to fill the gap. If done correctly when the balls shift to fill the gap some combos should occur.
Players can also tilt the iPhone to help the balls align better to score more combos. ScribBall makes great use of both touchscreen and accelerometer based controls, the only other puzzle games that fully utilize the iPhone controls as well as ScribBall have been Aurora Feint and Trism.
ScribBall provides a good amount of challenge, by penalizing players for mistakes and applying pressure by giving players a limited amount of time to think.
The game ends once the bar at the bottom is filled. Every time a player pops a ball the bar increases, so players need to choose the right ball to pop in order to score combos, rather than tapping on balls indiscriminately. Scoring combos reduces the bar, buying the player more time to increase their score.
ScribBall looks and feels different from all the other puzzle games, thanks to its hand drawn graphics and realistic physics, I’d definitely recommend this game to anyone looking for a fun and unique puzzle experience.
