Star Wars The Force Unleashed onto the App Store
Recently released, Star Wars The Force Unleashed, is off to a good start with its initial debut on the App Store earning a respectable average score of 4 stars based on 88 reviews.
“Unleash the full potential of the Force in new and devastating ways in the next chapter of the Star Wars saga. Experience an all-new story as Darth Vader’s secret apprentice charged with hunting down the remaining Jedi between Episodes III and IV. Hurl your enemies with the all new CellWeaverTM control system as you battle your way through breathtaking vistas. Stunning visuals such as Force Power effects, explosions, and flying debris allow you to feel the full power of the Force.”
The game uses a unique control scheme, rather than using virtual gamepads or accelerometer based controls, this one is purely touchscreen gestures. Normally this wouldn’t make much sense, but in the Star Wars universe it works perfectly.
Typically enemies will have patterns floating above them, if the player draws that pattern with their finger it will execute a force move such as grip, which holds enemies in the air by the throat, at which point another symbol will appear above them indicating which direction to swipe the finger to throw them.
This is just one example of how the game utilizes touchscreen gestures, the game gets much more complex in the later stages but doesn’t go at such a fast pace that a player feels overwhelmed by the wide variety of force moves available to him/her, since they are introduced in such a gradual manner through training sessions.
