iPhone 2.2 update will improve App Store ratings
Wednesday, October 29, 2008
iPhone 2.2 Beta screenshot posted by iPhoneHellas.gr shows a new prompt asking users to rate the app before deleting.
On the surface this may seem like a bad idea, since the majority of ratings will most likely be negative, causing an overall drop in app ratings across the board.
In the long run, this will greatly improve the accuracy of app ratings making them more reliable, high rated apps will become rare (as they should be). So when you see a high rated app, you’ll know it’s going to be especially good.

I hope they include an option to turn this off. That could get annoying and what if I don’t want to ever transmit a rating? And I hope it handles things gracefully if the connection signal is weak or nonexistant. I’m not here to improve Apple’s App store, I’m here to get my own work done.
