Protect the Shack in ‘Zombie Attack’ for the iPhone

IUGO has released a new tower defense game with a scary twist, Zombie Attack (AppStore), available now in the App Store for only $0.99.
Zombie Attack is by no means your traditional tower defense game. Instead of using the touchscreen to drag and drop defenses onto the map, in ZA you use your avatar to build the defenses. Your avatar’s movement is controlled by the accelerometer and the touchscreen is used for selecting/building defenses.
You won’t be able to maze your way out of this nightmare, in ZA you can’t place defenses adjacent to one another to create walls. The cost of upgrades remains constant, but the cost of new defenses rises with each additional purchase, so it’s better to build a few defenses and max upgrades, rather than try to fill the map with defenses.
The problem with zombies is that they’re already dead, so if you decapitate a limb or their head, they just keep moving, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any benefits to decapitating a zombie. When zombies lose their limbs they do less damage, if their head is decapitated they will move around the map randomly, buying you more time to finish the job. You can improve your odds of removing a limb or head by selecting the right defenses.

I am still trying to develop an optimal strategy. Initially started game by intercepting zombies at the source, but once they evolve and get past your initial defenses the shack is in trouble. Switched to layering a defense starting at the shack and moving outwards. That upped the typical score to ~7500 points, but I am hitting a wall around 8000 when the zombies have so many hit points that they shrug off attacks. And the fast thin one is big trouble if it makes a beeline for the shack. I have begun using my avatar as a lure by chasing the zombies going towards the shack and getting close enough to induce them to turn back. But I still have not figured out how people get 18000 or more points in this game…
I will say that it gets very difficult to keep your avatar out of trouble after you have created a bunch of turrets. The blasts from the flame throwers and cannons create big bright spots.
Crazy awesome game for $1. Even if you’re not a TowerDefense fan, you should try it. Its a good mix of action and strategy.
