Brother In Arms: Hour of Heroes now available in the App Store

Gameloft has just released the highly anticipated third-person shooter, Brother In Arms: Hour of Heroes ($9.99), now available for both iPhone and iPod touch.

The biggest question in everyone’s mind is how would the controls work. For racing games the controls vary only slightly, with most developers favoring tilt based controls for steering.

When it comes to TPS and FPS the control schemes vary greatly, some opting to use purely tilt based controls for movement, while others offer a mix of both tilt/touch, and lastly all touchscreen controls, which is what Brother In Arms opted for.

Brother In Arms offers 3 touchscreen control schemes.

  • Cam Move – In this control setup, the crosshair remains at the center of the screen at all times. A virtual D-Pad is located at the bottom left corner of the screen, used for moving forward, back, and strafing side to side. The center of the screen is used for free look, simply swipe your finger in the direction you wish to look. The button to fire your weapon is located in the bottom right corner, represented by the explosion icon.
  • 2 Pads – For console players, this will be the most familiar. The traditional dual D-Pad setup, the bottom left controls movement, while the bottom right controls free look. The gun fire icon is located above each virtual D-Pad.
  • Sight Move – This setup is similar to Cam Move, only differing by its control of free look. The crosshair is not locked at the center of the screen, where ever the player taps on the screen, the crosshair will follow, pressing the edges of the screen will shift your view in that direction.

The game offers assisted aiming, so you won’t have to be dead on with your crosshair, if you get your crosshair close enough it’ll lock onto the target.
