Must have Arcade Shooter ‘Dropship’ lands in the App Store
ngmoco has released one sick looking arcade shooter, Dropship ($1.99) now available for the iPhone and iPod touch.
In Dropship your goal is to evacuate stranded allies and a green container called “the pod”. The stranded allies will have names from your address book, ngmoco first used this feature in Dr. Awesome.
With such unique graphics, Dropship really stands out from all the other arcade shooters, well done ngmoco, I’m sold on the retro inspired graphics.
The controls are easy to learn, on the left half of the screen any where you touch an analog control represented by a blue circle will appear that controls movement, touching the right side will display a yellow circle used for shooting.
Movement and shooting works in similar fashion, just slide your finger in the direction you want to move/shoot on the corresponding circle.
The game includes a variety of firing modes, the game trailer below shows normal, spread, rapid and hyper-laser.
After killing enemies, a cloud of blue balls will appear, fly towards them to replenish your energy.
Although the game is 3D, don’t try to control the ship like you would in free flight games, no barrel rolls and so on. The game plays more like a side-scroller with some leeway. The maps can be confusing to navigate, take advantage of the nav-icons located at the edge of the screen, they’ll guide you towards your stranded allies and pod, yellow icons represent allies and green for the pod.
Be sure to save the pod for last, once you grab the pod a timer begins the countdown and it becomes a mad rush to escape before time runs out.
Campaign mode offers 18 challenging missions to play, but the fun doesn’t end there. Dropship will have downloadable content, already 3 maps are available in this section. Downloadable content is a great way to add replay value after a game has been released, looking forward to the future maps they release.
