‘Iron Man: Aerial Assault’ Rockets into the App Store

Iron Man: Aerial Assault ($7.99) offers a fresh take on flight sims for the iPhone and iPod touch.
In Iron Man: Aerial Assault (IMAA) you play as (you guessed it) Iron Man. The game isn’t a free flight sim, it’s more of a flight on rails. Iron Man remains stationary for the most part, unless he’s dodging.
The first two stages of IMAA are tutorials, which do a good job of explaining the controls of the game.
There are three main actions Iron Man can perform, training reticle on targets, fire repulsor blast and dodge incoming fire. To train your reticle on targets just tilt your iPhone. To fire Iron Man’s repulsor blast tap on the circle icon located mid-right on the screen, holding down this icon will charge Iron Man’s more powerful attack called Unibeam. The dodge button is located at the bottom-left corner of the screen.
Iron Man has three weapons at his disposal missiles, repulsor blast and Unibeam. Each weapon has a unique purpose. Missiles are used to counter incoming enemy missiles, repulsor blast is used to take out jets, and Unibeam for heavy targets such as battleship turrets.
The graphics in IMAA are quite good, I was worried the game would be on the gimmicky side, but after some initial play, I found that it offers a good amount of gameplay depth.
Iron Man: Aerial Assault includes 12 challenging missions to play through.
