topple-1

With games always pushing the envelope in terms of graphics, epic story lines, or new features like advanced AI, it’s easy to forget games were meant to be fun. That’s exactly what Topple is all about, pure fun.

The objective of Topple is to stack pieces high enough to reach the goal line, sounds simple enough but the game is much more challenging than it appears.

Rather than stacking pieces that fit snugly like in Tetris, you get pieces that I refer to as WTF pieces. These oddly shaped pieces don’t fit with any other piece. The best you can do is continue stacking pieces on them quickly, while taking advantage of the tilt controls to help keep your stack balanced.

The first few stages have nice flat and level platforms to build your stacks on, but as you progress you’ll start running into what I refer to as WTF platforms. These platforms are no longer flat and level, now you have to deal with jagged platforms and of course the one I despise the most, round platforms.

I liked how the controls were so easy to use. To move pieces you simply drag them using the touchscreen and multi-touch to rotate pieces. Place one finger on the piece, then use your second finger to swipe in the direction you want the piece to rotate. The use of tilt controls to balance the stack added a nice touch to Topple, making it feel more immersive.

I enjoyed the goofy graphics of Topple, the piece faces were funny to watch, especially when the stack was off balance. There isn’t really any weak spots in Topple, even the musical score was a delight to hear. I’d highly recommend Topple to anyone, don’t miss out on this great game, get it now!
