‘ExZeus’ Giant Robot Arcade Shooter, Oh Yea!

Gundam style action, check, a badass robot named Sophia, check, App Store approval, check, ExZeus ($5.99) for the iPhone and iPod touch has officially arrived.

ExZeus is essentially a flying game on rails, instead of a plane you pilot an experimental robot designed to fight against alien invaders known as the “Diadora” to regain control of the Earth’s surface.

The controls for movement are tilt based, moving up/down is inverted like most flying games, there’s an option to adjust this as well as calibrate the tilt controls. All the attacks are performed via touchscreen.

Tapping on the right side of the screen performs your normal attack. If you tap on the left side you create a lock on your targets which allows you to fire homing missiles at them. You can also tap and hold on the right side to perform a powerful charged beam attack.

Before you start playing, I highly recommend going through the game tutorial first, and by the way to pause the game, swipe in an upward motion, I couldn’t pause the game for the life of me the first go around.

The game includes a variety of 12 enemies and 5 bosses. You’ll also have the option to upgrade your robot, which adds a nice amount of strategical depth to the game.

This is definitely one of the more interesting releases as of late.

Yea, I have a feeling the next iPhone is going to get a big hardware update just like the 2nd generation iPod touch did. A CPU and ram update sounds like a sure bet, but what I’m really hoping to see is an update for better graphics performance like you mentioned.

Hard to believe a game with so much screen action going on can be played on what is basically a cellphone. It sure looks impressive. Can’t wait to see what Apple’s next VRGraphics-powered mobile device can do. It should kick the crap out of the PSP.
