Potpourrii is a matching game for the iPhone with cute/colorful graphics. Each stage is circular in which you fire spirits into the center from a cannon. When a spirit in the middle is hit by a spirit from a successive season it gets released, so the idea is to arrange your spirits in such a way that you release as many spirits as possible in one shot and pulling off combos is even better.

I’ve been playing Potpourrii sporadically over the last week. Why sporadically you say? Well I like to give games a chance to grow on me, maybe the sparks don’t fly on the first go, so you give the game a few more chances to reel you in. As many times as I tried to get into Potpourrii I couldn’t play the game for more than a few minutes before I grew bored. The idea behind the game sounds great, but once you get your hands on it, you can’t help but wonder how many other things you could have spent your 99 cents on.

There’s also an issue with performance, which I didn’t expect from such a simple looking game. As I played I noticed the cannon would skip around the screen and the game didn’t play smooth, the animation looked jittery. In defense of Potpourrii the poor performance could be due to the 3.0 beta OS on my iPhone.

The game isn’t horrible, but there’s just so many matching games in the App Store. Potpourrii doesn’t have any features that help it stand out from the sea of matching games already available on the iPhone. If you are looking for a good matching game, I’d have to say pass on this one.
