Bluetooth Game Controller working on iPhone?

When the iPhone 3.0 OS debuted we saw a lot of examples of how the iPhone could be used as a remote for accessories, but what about accessories controlling the iPhone, game controller anyone? That’s exactly what YouTuber mringwal has done, he explains how this feat was accomplished below.
The Bluetooth connection is established with a modified version of the Bluetooth Stack from the BTnode project at ETH Zurich. To control the game, the accelerometer data callbacks are intercepted and replaced with the joystick data. At code.google.com we plan to provide an open, platform-independent user-space Bluetooth stack for a various devices including the iPhone.
This would be great for games better suited for gamepads such as Street Fighter, not too far fetched considering Capcom is planning to release more than 10 iPhone titles by year’s end. But the question is will game controllers be adopted by enough gamers to make it worthwhile for developers to support them?
In the big scheme of things I can’t see any game controller gaining a strong foothold on the iPhone, they will just remain optional accessories much like joysticks and gamepads are on the PC.
