Quake Live for Mac Status Update: “close but not quite ready”

Play one of my all time favorite first person shooters through a web browser for free? Oh hell yea, count me in! What, I have to boot into Windows to play?! *Shoves [insert sharp object here] into eye*
Back in May, I was happy to hear that Quake Live on Mac had become id Software’s “top priority“, I figured it wouldn’t be much longer until us Mac gamers would have the chance to score some frags, but nearly three months have passed since then and still no Quake Live for Mac yet. Thankfully Marty Stratton, id Software’s Executive Producer, has posted an update on the Quake Live forums to let us know the current status of Quake Live for Mac.
“Seen lots of questions about Mac & Linux versions and their status and why they weren’t mentioned in the release on Tuesday. Both Mac & Linux are being tested with the closed beta group right now, so they are very close but not quite ready for full release on the main site. If you use a Mac/Linux system and would like to potentially test, please reply to this post with your system info (hardware, OS & version, Processor, Memory, Browser & version). We likely won’t select everyone to help finish up the testing, but will select people with systems that fill holes in our test group.”
Looks like it won’t be much longer until we can play Quake Live on our beloved Macs, keep your fingers crossed for an August release. An excellent trailer made by killat0n reminds us why Quake is so awesome and worth the wait.

@asdfasdf
Confession, I too booted into the OS we do not speak of, only to play Quake Live, but after a while the OS we do not speak of reminded of why I left the OS we do not speak of in the first place, so I had to stop playing Quake Live. I’m just waiting on the Mac release before I jump back in.
its about time, ive been waiting for this forever and have been booting in XP for just this reason ever since the beta.
