Dragon’s Lair Released for iPhone
Dragon’s Lair was first released back in 1983, at the time of the release I was only a year old, so I’m not going to pretend to have any prior experience with this game, obviously. Although I do recall my dad talking about Dragon’s Lair on more than a few occasions, I never thought any of his gaming rants would ever come in handy, but here we are with the release of Dragon’s Lair on the iPhone.
The graphics of Dragon’s Lair is what set it apart from other games of its era. Of course in this day and age the graphics aren’t all that impressive, but when considering the games available in 1983, such as Pac-Man, it’s easy to see why people were so excited about Dragon’s Lair.
Dragon’s Lair achieved its graphics by using a series of pre-recorded video clips. It was actually played on laserdisc systems, which is kind of weird when you think about it. Could you imagine playing games on your DVD player?
But enough about the past, let’s move onto the release of Dragon’s Lair for the iPhone.
Like the original, Dragon’s Lair plays a series of video clips, in each scene you’ll need to press the right sequence of buttons to continue through the game. If not, then the game will play a death video clip. It’s actually kind of fun to watch your character die, because each death video clip is different for each scene.

For controls there is a button for sword located at the lower left and a directional-pad at the lower right.
Most games position the D-pad in the lower left, but I can see the logic behind placing the D-pad at the lower right. Since players will be tapping the D-pad more often than the sword button, it’s more convenient for right-handed players. And for the lefties out there, don’t worry there’s an option in the menu to swap the controls.
The button that needs to be pressed will flash yellow, but you have to be really fast. The amount of time the game gives a player to press the yellow button varies from scene to scene.
All and all Dragon’s Lair was interesting to play, I wouldn’t recommend purchasing it unless you’re a fan of the original.

I hope he will release Dragon’s Lair 2 for iphone
I remember back in the day being nine years old this game was only out for a year and seeing kids a little older than me shoving fistfuls of quarters into this machine ( I was one of them) this game was a timeless classic that unfortunately not everyone got to experience. I thank you Don Bluth for making such a great game for the underprivileged gaming generation like mine.
Hey thanks for sharing your experience with us, it’s really nice to hear from someone that experienced Dragon’s Lair first hand, and got to see how much of an impact it had on gamers back then. Take care crazylegs.
